Welcome to Sarah Goldstein's Fundraising Page
Hello! I'm hoping I can count on your support as I fundraise for an event near and dear to my heart.
On October 15th, in Chicago, I will be walking in the National Eating Disorder Association's (NEDA) Walk to support those affected by eating disorders and their families. About 20 million women and 10 million men will develop eating disorders at some point in their lives, and each individual has friends or family members who are terribly affected as well.
I have lost many dear friends to their eating disorders; though they have not lost their lives, they have lost their health, their hope, their peace of mind, and often their family support. I walk for all those afflicted by eating disorders, and I hope you will join me in supporting NEDA as they try to make a difference in the lives of millions of people around the world.
Every 62 minutes, at least one person dies as a direct result from an eating disorder, giving eating disorders the highest mortality rate of any mental illness. Those afflicted with the disease do not always look like they are sick. Overweight individuals with eating disorders who lose weight through unhealthy means are often rewarded and congratulated by society and thus never think to seek help for their disease. That's where NEDA comes in! NEDA works to erase stigma while spreading awareness of the signs and symptoms of eating disorders and providing support and resources for those who seek it.
The team I am walking with, Cats with Confidence, is a group that I have started with a close friend. Though not affiliated with Northwestern, we nonetheless hope that we can bring some of NEDA's work to our beloved campus. We seek to promote body positivity, spread awareness of eating disorder signs and symptoms, and provide local resources to those directly and indirectly affected by eating disorders.
Any and all donations are beyond appreciated. If you are local and interested in joining in the walk or the group, please let me know!
