Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! The National Eating Disorders Association's vision is to eliminate eating disorders globally by promoting positive body image and self-esteem and by discouraging dieting behaviors, drive for thinness, and body dissatisfaction.
A little bit about my story...College was a hard transition and I developed an eating disorder my freshman year as a way to cope with my life at that time - food and my body were the two things I felt I had control over. Friends and family members knew something was wrong but didn't know how to help me - I soon realized education was at the heart of prevention. I am now recovered for over five years and it is my passion to educate as many people as I can so that no one has to feel the way I felt when I was desperately needing help and had a hard time finding it. My goal is to help erase the stigma of eating disorders and to bring the "skeleton" out of the closet. Eating disorders are an uncomfortable topic and so often not talking about them delays diagnosis and treatment.
NEDA is recognized and supported by sufferers, families, health care professionals and educators throughout the world. As you can see, raising awareness for this organization is critical in order to create a world where all women, girls and men feel confident about their bodies and are embraced for who they are as individuals, not what they look like. NEDA provides critical programs and services to support individuals and families affected by eating disorders like their National toll-free Helpline, Annual Conference, Parents, Families and Friends Network, NEDA Navigators and Preventative Tookits for Parents and Educators.
I am participating as the Fort Worth NEDA Walk Coordinator for the fourth year because this is a cause that is near and dear to my heart and I believe in NEDA's programs. Donating to my fundraising page is a way for you to demonstrate that you care about increasing positive body image among women, girls and men across the country. Contributing through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts and help me meet my fundraising goal!
60% of the money we raise for the Fort Worth walk will go directly into Tarrant County to provide education around self-esteem and eating disorder prevention and awareness in local schools, as well as other life-saving services. 40% of the money we raise in the Fort Worth walk will go to support NEDA's many programs such as NEDA's Information and Referral Helpline (800-931-2237), NEDAwareness Week, research and more.
Thank you so much for your support. I am able to spread the word about NEDA and eating disorders with the confidence that I will feel embraced by my loved ones. Please help me fill my thermometer by forwarding my page to anyone you think might want to join in the cause with us!
